PARNASSUS PREPARATORY SCHOOL – RECEIVES TOP RECOGNITION
Minneapolis, September 22, 2016 — Parnassus Preparatory School is pleased to announce that it met the criteria set by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) as a Reward School.
In a letter to the school, Dr. Brenda Casselius, Minnesota Education Commissioner, stated “Your school is among the highest performing schools in the state, and this recognition [2016 Reward School] reflects the incredible success of your students and tireless efforts on behalf of your staff.”
The Minnesota rating system allows the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) to look at the performance of a school in the areas of proficiency, growth, achievement gap reduction and graduation rates. The system emphasizes the importance of both achievement and student progress from year-to-year, and it allows MDE to recognize and share the incredible accomplishments in schools just like Parnassus.
Constance Ford, Executive Director at Parnassus, stated, “We were both excited and honored to receive this news. Our teachers and staff work hard each day to educate our students in the classical framework. A classical liberal arts education helps our young scholars make significant academic gains and works in our favor toward academic goals and closing the achievement gap.”
Authorized by Friends of Education, and approved by the Minnesota Department of Education in 2009, Parnassus Preparatory School is the only licensed K-12 public charter school in the Northwest metro area that offers the classical trivium, a proven educational method and theories that have delivered high academic performance results. The school continues to accept applications for Prima – 3R Level Rhetoric (Grades K-11) for the academic year of 2016-2017. Open enrollment for 2017-2018 begins on October 1st.
